June trip to Missouri

The Bartlett six headed south to Missouri for my brother's wedding. We left late Wednesday night to eliminate numerous bathroom stops and general frustration from the kids. Total driving time = 12.5 hours.

We spent Fri and Sat at the beautiful Chateau on the Lake in Branson. We hit the go-karts, bumper boats, and children's rides first. At the hotel, the kids spent every free moment they could in the pool, and I got my first pedicure (oh my goodness, how wonderful.)

The wedding was beautiful. The sun was bright, but at least there was no rain. Connor did a wonderful job, made quick friends with the flower girl, and even told someone he would marry her.

On Sunday, Brett preached at South Side Baptist Church. It was a wonderful service, but we did miss our own church family terribly.

We got to spend time with our respective families, had three home-cooked meals from our grandmothers, took in a Nancy Drew movie, went miniature golfing, swam some more, and had a great time just spend time together as a family.

We decided to drive back during they day, but broke it up with a stop at the St. Louis arch. It was great fun . . .pictures to come from that later. Total driving time back = 15 hours.

Memorial Day

It was a busy day, but very fun. We went to the park in the afternoon and let the kids play for while in the hot sun. Baylea, Molly, and Connor discovered that they love to make themselves dizzy on the tire swing, while Cole could have spent the whole day being pushed in the regular swing. He also showed no fear of heights and would climb up anything with or without me.

Brett and I played in our golf league later and had a really fun time. I shot my first birdie ever! It was a short par 3, but I got on the green in one (which has also never happened), and made a decent putt to sink it. Golf can be really fun when you hit well . . I hope to get better each week in the league.

Then we went to Demetrius and Joanne's for a cookout with church friends. We got there towards the end, but had a blast playing volleyball, family feud, and making s'mores. We got home around ten and thought we were up for watching a movie, but five minutes later, the activities of the day caught up with us and we all went to bed, exhausted.

You Know You're a Mother When . . .

You count the sprinkles on each kid's cupcake to make sure they're equal.

You have time to shave only one leg at a time.

You hide in the bathroom to be alone.

Your kid throws-up and you catch it.

Someone else's kid throws up at a party. You keep eating.

As you cling to the high moral ground on toy weapons; your child chews his toast into the shape of a gun.

You hope ketchup is a vegetable, since it's the only one your child eats.

You find yourself cutting your husband's sandwiches into cute shapes.

You hear your mother's voice coming out of your mouth when you say, "NOT in your good clothes!"

You stop criticizing the way your mother raised you.

You donate to charities in the hope that your child won't get that disease.

You hire a sitter because you haven't been out with your husband in ages, then spend half the night checking on the kids.

You use your own saliva to clean your child's face.

You say at least once a day, "I'm not cut out for this job", but you know you wouldn't trade it for anything".

(The 4th and 5th lines are spot on!)

Our friends Todd and Kelly visited Toledo a couple weeks ago on a Sunday. After church, we ate at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants, El Camino.

To be fair to the kids, I'll post mine too.
